notes pour une petite histoire non chronologique de la critique d’art n.5, par E. after a spectacular attempt of escaping the riots in Bucarest by helicopter on December 22, Nicolae Ceauşescu and his wife Elena — the last of the Eastern Europe communist dictators — were sentenced to death, on Christmas Day, by a military court on charges ranging from illegal gathering of wealth to genocide. An amateur video of the trial showed that after sentencing, the prisoners had their hands tied behind their backs and were led outside the building. The Ceauşescus were executed by a firing squad consisting of only

four willing elite paratroop regiment soldiers while reportedly, hundreds of others also volunteered. the firing squad began shooting as soon as the couple was in position against a wall. unfortunately, it all happened too soon for the film crew covering the events to record it. It was a statement that the communist film industry, in spite of their best efforts, was seriously handicapped when compared to Hollywood.
